At Food Pioneers, action-oriented research is central: we don't just work in theory, but always in collaboration with practitioners. This way, new knowledge is directly applied in the region, and insights yield tangible results. Whether it's about short food supply chains, innovative cultivation methods, or a healthier food environment in cities – every piece of research makes a difference locally and contributes to solutions that are also valuable internationally. European research
We are involved in multi-year European research projects on urban agriculture, short supply chains, and urban food production. We collaborate closely with:

Projects and examples
FOODCITYBOOST
In FOODCITYBOOST, we investigate the impact of urban agriculture on both the environment and society. From soil quality and CO₂ emissions to community cohesion and health. Almere serves as a Living Lab and model city for innovative urban agriculture.
Floating deltas
Within this consortium research project, we are exploring how floating food production can contribute to climate-resilient cities. We are testing concepts for hydroponic farming, spatial integration in delta cities, and collaboration between government, businesses, and Food Labs .
Knowledge vouchers
For organizations with a specific food issue, we offer knowledge vouchers . These give you access to applied research or training courses – from product development to consumer research.
